Our Cosmetology Program:
The Cosmetology curriculum is designed to equip students with practical, hands-on training in a simulated salon environment. The coursework offers comprehensive instruction in all areas of professional presentation, including hair design, chemical services, skincare, nail care, and multicultural practices. Additionally, students receive training in business and computer principles, product knowledge, and other selected industry-related topics.

Cosmetology Apprentice Option
Turn your education into real-world salon experience.
The Beauty School offers a 1,200-hour cosmetology apprentice option for qualified students who are ready to continue developing their skills in a professional salon environment.
Students complete 1,200 hours of approved cosmetology education, including the required theory, practical services, clinic experience, and State Board preparation. After graduation, passing the required State Board examinations, and receiving an apprentice license from the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners, the graduate may begin an apprenticeship in a licensed North Carolina cosmetic art shop under the direct supervision of a licensed cosmetologist.
How It Works
1. Complete Your School Training
Successfully complete 1,200 hours of cosmetology education and all required theory, practical assignments, services, and school requirements.
2. Pass Your State Board Examinations
Apply for and pass the required written and practical examinations, then complete the North Carolina apprentice-license application process.
3. Begin Your Salon Apprenticeship
Work under the direct supervision of a licensed cosmetologist in a licensed North Carolina cosmetic art shop. A full-time apprenticeship requires a minimum of six months at approximately 38–40 hours per week. Part-time apprentices must complete a total of 1,040 apprenticeship hours.
4. Apply for Full Cosmetologist Licensure
After successfully completing the apprenticeship and submitting the required documentation, the apprentice may apply to the Board for full cosmetologist licensure.
Is This Option Right for You?
The apprenticeship option may be a strong fit for a motivated student who:

Has demonstrated consistent attendance and professionalism. Approved by director/owner.

Has completed all required theory and practical work. As well as have passed the written theory state board exam at 1,000 hours.

Is prepared to pass State Board practical examinations.

Can show proof of employment in a licensed North Carolina cosmetic art shop.

Must show evidence of employment at salon that offers apprenticeship stylists.
Participation requires approval from The Beauty School’s director. Students must remain in good academic, attendance, financial, and behavioral standing and satisfy all school and State Board requirements.
Esthetics Focused Cosmetology Program
This specialized program option is designed for a cosmetology student who wants the broad education of a cosmetology program while developing deeper knowledge and confidence in skin care services. The student remains fully enrolled in the cosmetology program and completes the same required theory, practical work, clinic experience, and state board preparation as the rest of the cosmetology class

About Us
A few years ago, Diane began the process of getting her retail building zoned as a North Carolina cosmetic arts school — a project that meant fitting out equipment, building walls, and meeting every state requirement, all while working through a written approval process with the state board during the height of COVID. The pandemic delayed the opening, but in 2021, the doors finally opened. It’s a milestone she calls her hardest and most rewarding business yet. She and her husband, who she credits as her biggest supporter through 33 years of building businesses together, worked side by side to bring the vision to life. What sets The Beauty School apart is its focus on the business of beauty, not just the technical skills needed to pass a licensing exam. Students split their time between the classroom and the clinic floor, where they get hands-on experience working with real clients, learning how to attract and retain business, and building the confidence to eventually run their own salon or booth rental. Graduates leave with the client relationships they built during school — a head start most cosmetology programs don’t offer.
